West Yorkshire Photography Tuition

Calm, practical photography coaching for beginners—film or digital, in West Yorkshire, with small groups or one-to-one sessions, plus weekend adventures in the Lake District. No previous experinece needed.

I’m a hands-on photographer and mentor who believes photography starts with seeing light, not chasing the latest gear. In West Yorkshire I offer three beginner-friendly options—90-minute Basics (£80); 3-hour Basics plus a Local Photowalk (£125); and 5-hour Advanced Techniques (£220)—and weekend Lake District experiences from £250. Sessions are small or one-to-one, paced to your curiosity and comfort, with film or digital workflows welcome. From quick goal alignment to practical practice and simple notes, I’ll guide you toward a clear, doable path for your photography.

Seeing Light, Making Meaning

I teach beginner photographers to read light, space, and moment. Based in West Yorkshire, I also offer weekend Lake District explorations as an award winning landscape photographer. Coaching is hands-on and paced to the learner, in small groups or one-on-one. I work with both film and digital workflows to build practical skills without jargon. The core idea is simple: progress comes from practice that fits your pace, curiosity, and storytelling.

Pace and language tuned to you

I tailor pacing, language, and exercises to your comfort level, the day’s weather, and the locations we visit. A first attempt at manual settings becomes a small victory when you can name what you’re trying to achieve and how light and composition support it.

Learning in real places

Sessions unfold in familiar West Yorkshire spaces — quiet canals, park corners, and quiet streets — where you can practice reading light, texture, and rhythm in real contexts.

Lake District as extended practice

The weekend Lake District experiences blend location scouting, sunrise shoots, and guided practice into a concentrated setting that reinforces what you learn in shorter sessions while preserving the pace you prefer.

Film and digital, practical together

If you would like to learn how to use an old film camera alongside efficient digital workflows we can do that too! So you can explore tactile processes or fast digital capture, depending on your interests.

90-minute Basics

In 90 minutes I cover camera handling, core exposure concepts, and simple compositions. It’s hands-on and paced for beginners. I offer this in West Yorkshire for individuals or small groups. Price: £80.

3-hour Basics + Local Photowalk

I build on the basics with a guided walk to observe light, timing, and how to translate a place into a photo. It includes practice in real scenes and feedback during and after the walk. Available in West Yorkshire for small groups or one-on-one. Price: £125 for 3 hours.

5-hour Advanced Techniques

I guide you through creative control of exposure, focus and depth, motion and light, with a structured critique and a practical practice plan you can carry forward after the session. Delivered in West Yorkshire for small groups or one-on-one. Price: £220.

The Learning Path: curiosity to confident practice

01

Inquiry and goal alignment

I begin with a quick, friendly chat to understand what you want to achieve, how you’ll know you’ve progressed, and what gear you have or want to use. This helps set a clear, workable target for the session.

02

Planning and preparation

We plan the day together: choose a nearby scene, discuss weather and light, and map out the exercises that will move you toward your goal. I tailor the pace and language to your comfort and the realities of the day.

03

The session day

On the day, we start with a brief, practical briefing, run a couple of targeted exercises, and apply what you’ve learned to real scenes. Then we walk through what worked, what didn’t, and why, in a calm feedback loop that reflects your pace.

04

Post-session practice and ongoing guidance

You’ll receive concise notes and tailored practice tasks to reinforce what you learned, plus a simple photo gallery or optional edits. For Lake District weekends, the rhythm includes location scouting, sunrise shoots, and reflective reviews across days, all paced to your comfort. The final step is your ongoing practice plan with gentle milestones to keep you progressing between sessions.
